Elimination of Valve Cover Air Hoses was created by retcol
I just bought a 1980 KZ1000 LTD engine to put into my 1978 KZ1000A frame. The 80 LTD engine has 2 air hoses coming out of the valve covers that meet into a device that also has 2 smaller hoses coming out to the carb insulators. My 78 engine doesn't have this plumbing and I assume it is part of the EPA pollution control system that year. My question is this: can I remove this contraption and just plug off those hose tubes coming out of the valve covers or better yet put my 78 valve cover on the 80 engine? Will the engine run OK without this air venting plumbing? Any other modifications necessary if you remove this junk? Thanks for your answers.

you can just run the hose over to the other or cap them. I dont think the other valve cover will work.

Make sure to block, or cap off any open vacuum lines if you remove the air switch housing(the object the cover vents went to) or the engine will run lean.Don't forget the air supply line(a large hose) that supplied fresh air to the reed valves in the valve covers. It needs capping off too.

if you do the ape covers block the passages to the upper cover. 10mm tap and a machine screw that matches the tap size and thread pitch. it will keep oil out of the cover.use a machine screw about 1/2 to 1 inch long. the 10mm goes in easy with little force. dont get the shavings in the head or engine. use a sealer on the screw when you install.
