the locknut for my main sprocket? was created by shimkus
im planning on doing the chain and sprockets soon on my kz650. i read that when these are done, the locking nut holding the main sprocket on should be replaced as well. i am looking in the service manual and all it says is "nut". brilliant. so i suppose what i am asking is there a part number somewhere in the manual that im missing? or if anyone had the part # that would be awesome

You can easily find such info on Kawasaki's website under Owner Info - Parts Diagrams.

According to Kawasaki.com the nut is part #92015-1254 but it is not still an active part. The lock washer is part #92200-1065 and it is still active so any dealer can provide it. I don’t know if it is absolutely necessary to replace the nut, but for sure replace the washer. Ed

Hi Shimkus, There should be a new section of that washer after you un-peel the two sides. All you really need is a small part of the washer against the nut, and it will never unscrew. If no good section, then worry about getting a new one. Mine worked find with new material being used. Bob

I have used the same sprocket nut on all my bikes without issue. I don't even use a lock washer. I will use the blue locktite and torque them down. Never had an issue in over 30 years.

I've always used a new lock washer; $2 every 40,000 miles or so is no biggie, especially if your paying for 2 new sprockets and a new chain anyway. But to each his own. Ed
