Unless your stuck sitting in traffic, not moving on a hot day its not likely that its overheating. Ive ridden my GPZ750 across the Mojave desert at 117 degrees running 65 mph and thought it would melt down into a molten pile of aluminum and it didnt even phase it. Ive also been passed by Harley baggers 2 up and towing a camp trailer runing 85 mph at the same time I was crossing that desert and it didnt stop them either. Bikes are tough ! Ive had a 70 Triumph 650 Bonneville lock the wheels up too when it siezed, but I think it was because it was a Triumph, not hot.

If it's overheating, you should hear it pinging when you open the throttle. Then it will start to run rough and vibrate a lot. By then you should be feeling the heat.
