TK 22 Dyno jet instructions Suck ! was created by Gar1800
Im trying to put the new needles in and im already stuck on step 4 in section B. I have removed the nut and a screw from the slide arm, after that it says to lift and remove the linkage up and back to remove the slides. When I pull the linkage arm up there isnt any room to remove the linkage arm out of the way to pull out the slide. What am I missing in these directions? So far in section A&B it says to refer to chart 1 ... what chart 1? I have no charts with the directions or the pdf file on the tk 22 carb site

There are 2 small phillips screws that attach the linkage to the slide once you take those out the slide will come right out. Look straight down the slide from the top you will see them they are small IIRC they are #1 size phillips.

Gar I'm attaching a diagram of the carb so you can see what I'm talking about it is #12 in the diagram #13 is the lockwasher you will be removing as well. If you have a screwdriver with a magnetic tip that is helpful especially when it comes time to reassemble.

Yes, I have plans to do a page on replacing the needles on the tk-22 site. There is sort of a trick to it.

Do not remove the nut and screw from the slide arm adjuster mechanism. That is sometimes difficult to get back together, and easy to lose parts. It does not have to come apart. You just need some skinny screwdrivers, blade type for removal, and small philips (JIS, actually) to re-install.

There are two small scres inside the slide that come out in a tricky manner.

Step one is remove the screw holding the arm to the throttle shaft.

The tricky part is removing the tiny screws inside the slide. One can be accessed while the slide is down, but the other can only be accessed while the slide is pulled upward.

After doing it several times it's easy and becomes second nature. It helps to have the exact right set of screwdrivers too.

I edited the diagram to show where there are two screws in case anyone else comes across this thread.

Ok got to practicing on my spare carbs and its fairly easy now. Great tips.

The next question which I still dont understand is the Dyno kit comes with # 98 mains and bigger. Its suggested by (loudhvx) that I use # 96 mains .. Am I suppose to drill out the stock mains to 96 like the pilots, or am I missing something here?

I have went back and read the instructions again for drilling out the jets and now understand its for drilling the mains and pilots. The TK 22 site is very well done with lots of details and pictures. I my reading comprehension has always been pretty bad. Looks like its a trip to the hardware store for some new drill bits.

Hi Gar,
I get a lot of requests for jet info on KZ550's, and since I have a bad memory, I can't keep everyone's setup straight in my head, so I apologize in advance if you've already told me, but what exhaust do you have and are you running the airbox?

I realize swapping jets around is no easy task when the bike still has the airbox so I understand the desire to get it right the first time. But have we talked about you using the Dynojet kit and/or the 98 mains that come with it?
