652 or 0.652 KZ650? was created by faffi
Hi!
I have two 650s first registered in 1977; one Euro version Z650 and one US version KZ650. The Euro bike should be a B1, the USA bike a B2 according to the frame numbers. Yet the only major differences are the fork and brake up front, other than that my B2 appears to be B1 spec.
However, one peculiar difference between the two bikes regard the cylinder block. On the Euro bike, it says 0.652 l (for litre) and on the US bike it says 652 cc. Does anyone else have 0.652 l cast into their cylinder block?

I looked through 15 KZ650s I got sitting around. What I found was 8 said 650cc, and 7 said .752L. What I gather is all 79s say .752L, late 78s say .752L, early 78 and 77 say 652cc. The most important thing I found out of all this is I own too many motorcycles. Edit- of course 7 say .652L, not .752L. Don't know where the 7 came in my head from.

The biggest difference in the motor will be the charging system. If the motor has 3 screws in a triangle patern on the laternator cover, then it is the 1977 type motor with the excited-field alternator.

Faffi - does the alternator cover on the bike marked 0.652 l look like the one below (with the 3 Allen screws)? If not, it is not a 1977 engine.
