Hi, I have all the parts I need to put my kz750ee motor back together minus this little kickstart stopper piece. I ordered it on bikebandit but it seems to not be available anymore. I can fab up a bracket but I need more info on what the stopper actually does. I know it engages the tab on part of the kick mech but I need to know if it makes part of it disengage while the motor is running, etc. Any info or dimensions would be awesome!
Thanks
Adam

The purpose of the stopper plate is to disengage the kickstart ratchet - when the return spring forces the kick shaft back to it's resting position the tab on the inner part of the ratchet hits the stopper plate at it's angled part. This causes the inner part of the ratchet to move left (when sitting on the bike) and disengage.

Just about to eat now, but I'll snap a pic of the mechanism after dinner.

I'm confused (as usual). You say your motor is a "kz750ee"; what is that and did it originally come with a kickstarter? Ed

Ok, here you go.

In the first pic the kicstart mechanism it at rest, the ratchet is disengaged and the tab on the inner half of the ratchet is resting against the flat part of the stopper plate.

The inner half of the ratchet is splined to the kick shaft and can slide on the shaft while the outer half is part of the kickstart gear and rotates with the running engine. The inner part of the ratchet is spring loaded and as you depress the kick start the tab slides along the angled part of the stopper plate, the spring presses the inner half of the ratchet to the right (when sitting on the bike), the ratchet engages and the kick start gear rotates which in turn rotates the output shaft and the rest of the engine (pic 2 and 3).

As you release the kickstart, the return spring reverses the process, rotating the kick shaft back to it's resting position, the tab slides along the angled part of the stopper plate and the inner half of the ratchet is pushed left, disengaging the ratchet.

OnkelB, you sir deserve a beer! That is the best forum answer I have ever received. That case looks a little dusty!

Kz750ee is a 81' w/o kickstart. I bought 650 parts to put in it.

It's not dusty, it's downright filthy. :P I got hold of a KZ parts stash some years ago, ao this set of damaged 650 cases that I keep around for stuff like this, never bothered to clean them up.

As for the stopper plate, try posting in the "Wanted" section, there must be a member here who has one.

Btw, to be absolutely correct the stopper is actually two parts: the stopper itself (OEM 13072-018) and a lock washer (OEM 92024-036) on top with bendable tangs to keep the mounting bolts secure, both are used on all 650s with kickstart. If you can't find the lock washer a bit of thread lock will do.
