Cam chain link question was created by Mcdroid
This isn't really a problem, but rather an observation about reality vs. kawasaki manual information. In the KZ1000A1 KHI manual (and in the later edition KZ1000A2/4 edition) to check for wear on the cam chain, stretch a 20 link segment and measure it. It should be in the 155 mm range and replace around 157 mm. I have measured mine (1977 KZ1000A1) and it is about 147 mm for a 20 link segment. I then measured a new cam chain I ordered and it is also at 147 mm for a 20 link segment. Can this be another error in the hallowed shop manuals?

I suspect this advice is not very helpful since it requires the cases be split and the chain removed from the bike. If you split the cases and pull the chain out, I suspect you will likely just pitch the old chain and replace it after the effort. Also, it could be that you were not stretching the chain enough... hehe
