Camshaft questions. was created by waterman
Anyone know if a 1982 1100 Spectre's camshaft is the camshaft used in the 1982 KZ1000 standard or the LTD.
In the back of my mind, I have been considering putting J-model standard cams in my bike and having the carbs worked on to bump up the horsepower. I may be off with this one, but the way I se it is that the standard had about 10% more horsepower that I can get by making my LTD engine into a standard (yes, I already have Kerkers and K&Ns). If this is whacked, someone tell me. Or, if there is a better route, let me know on that too.

Rick:
The cams for the D and K models are identical (same part number). However, the J model uses different cams (different part number)...what this translates to in terms of 'drop-in' ability or performance enhancement, I don't know.

Anecdotal info:
A local guy was running a 81 KZ1000 CSR with a 1075 Wiseco kit and APE cams, when he decided to put the bike back on the street he installed GPz1100 cams, when he decided to sell it, he installed J model (standard) cams.
According to him the cams are rated in increasing performance like this.
CSR/LTD 1000
J (standard)
GPz1100
APE (I don't remember which ones)

I thought that the GPZ and standard kz cams were the same? I'm just trying to get more horses with out a cylinder replacement.
