I've been plagued with a rattly exhaust for the last six months.
So I thought I'd remove it and see if I can stop it.
Being the original pipes, I removed the rear plate hoping it would be a baffle that went down the length of the muffler. No such luck, the plate had a 6" pipe and then another plate welded to the inside of the muffler with other pipes disappearing into the guts of the muffler.
So at this stage I'm thinking to scrap the system and replace it with a 4-1. Meanwhile I'll temporarily fix the rattle. it appears that there are baffle plates spot welded at various positions down the muffler. I knew where the rattle as coming from, so I got my best copperhead hammer and gave it a good whack on the side closest to the wheel right where the rattly welded baffle plate is. While the system was off the bike I did the other side as well, just in case.
Fitted the system again and tested it out. Rattle gone, best of all the copper hammer didn't break through the Black chrome either.
It looks like I'll have to wait, for a few more years, for those 4-1s
