Has anyone ever thought about or put a zx 12 or zx 14 on a kz? from what i have read these are some bad motors. Just wondering what all would go into it getting it in the frame?

I'm sure there would be many obstacles to overcome but one of the main ones would be the frame...especially the backbone part on the KZ. Under the tank is where a ZX12-14 injectors are located along with the air cleaner. Look at the shape of a KZ tank and the shell off one of those other bikes and you can see the difference you would have to deal with. I've seen a busa motor used but that bike was using an aftermarket frame, etc....basically he just hung KZ bodywork on the busa set-up. Looked good and ran good but that would be simple compared to trying to fit a 12-14 motor into a KZ. You would basically end up with very little of original frame left. Then you have to wire in electrical system to handle the issures with the injectors, etc. And that's just the beginning.

1980 LTD (changed over the years), 1979 LTD (being rebuilt), 1977 KZ turbo and various KZ's in various states of build. KLX110

Maybe if you were to re-index it in the frame and allow it to be a stressed member.

however you'd need to change most everything on the bike, in which case you might as well start with another bike

ZX12 and ZX14 motors are not stressed frame members, they hang from the backbone.
It's a major undertaking to install either one in a ZX11 frame, and the ZX11 is already liquid cooled with the forward slanting cylinder block.

Best motor for a KZ frame is the matching KZ motor :)

Don't listen to those nay-sayers! It’s a simple, direct swap. Just follow these steps:

1. Remove the valve stem caps from the tires of the KZ
2. Hold the caps while a friend rolls the KZ forward about 20 feet
3. Have the friend then roll the ZX up to the spot that the KZ previously occupied
4. Install the caps on the ZX

That’s all there is to it; you’re ready to ride.
And if you ever change your mind, you can easily reverse the change. ;)

A nice REX will set you back 3-4 grand. Put that money into boring the jugs, porting the head, stump pulling cams, and match everything to a nice rack of RS carbs.
