Kz400 engine knock noise

Picked up my first Kawasaki tonight. 76 kz400. Need to rebuild the carbs etc, but when I kick it over it makes a knock noise. Can't quite pinpoint it, but its on the right side. Either from the clutch area or top end.any ideas? Thanks a lot
