high idle and bad sputter

im new to the forum and i just purchased a 1980 kz440. it fires right up but idles high and starts cutting out when under throttle. if anyone has any kind of info on what it could be it would be very much appreciated.

Welcome aboard. You may want to use this site's excellent search function to find some general info about your bike's problem. Enter the words "KZ440 idle" and you should see about 30+ hits. Ed

Sounds like an adjustment for the idle and a carb cleaning and syncing for the sputter. Could be numerous things also.

Like Ed said do a search and see if your symptoms are already posted. That will give you a place to start. If you can not find anything ask away once you have done some investigating because you will need basic answers to questions that will be asked. These guys will get ya up and riding one way or another. Have fun and learn your bike.

the high idle isnt really the problem im worried about its the cutting out under throttle that i cant get figured out

The choke is not on is it?

no the choke isnt on i pulled the carbs and one of the diaphrams has o small tear in it so im thinking that is my problem
