The cam end plugs keep blowing out of my '80 KZ 1000. Long story short, last fall I did a top end, weather was cold so I only put on 250 miles, bike ran great. This winter I removed the cam cover and adjusted the valves, installed a new gasket and cam end plugs. I added pods and vented the crankcase. First test ride, 2 plugs blew out. Installed new plugs (super glue this time) they blew out within 3 miles. Kind of hard on my Danners. Any tips regarding sealant, ect will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. FD61

FastDave, I think the answer is to....
Make sure the cam end plugs fit and don't protrude too much
Ensure the surfaces are free from oil.
Allow time for sealant to cure, before pulling the cam cover down.

I have seen the Black alloy cam plugs fitted neatly and have been thinking of going with them.

Go Aluminum and no issues for 30 years

Check for restricted crankcase breather. I added a breather to my cam cover and run the vent hose to my chaingard or a catch can if dictated by race track.

Or, install the cam plugs so the flange in on the inside, so it can't blow out.

Yamaha 3-bond, let it cure.

Clean off all the old adhesive and oil/grease.

Thanks Hunter: Used Yamabond, installed cover snug let sit over night, installed new gasket, seems to be fine now, hope it stays that way. Thanks again, FD61
