GPZ gasket change ? was created by dfinnegan71
I have an 81 GPZ550 that is leaking from the tach, head gasket and base gasket. Also from the front sprocket. I don't mind the last one, it's like I bought an expensive auto chain lube system!!

Just a quick question, has anyone changed out their base gasket, and head gasket on their 4 cylinder KZ's while leaving the engine in the frame? Is is possible like with the KZ twin cylinder bikes?

There is no reason to pull the motor to do what you anticipate. Get the official Kawasaki shop manual for your motorcycle and there will be step-by-step instructions for changing gaskets with the motor left in the frame.

The tack drive could be leaking more than you think. Clean the areas up and look again at other leaks before tearing it all apart.

Thanks Mcdroid. And thank you Peter, it's leaking on the back under the carbs on the base gasket. And on left side on the head gasket. But thanks for the advice. There is a dry patch between the tach oil leak and head leak. What about the leak behind the sprocket? Doable without engine removal? Shop manual...,a must have.
