Do you guys ever replace the oil relief valve or just clean it up? How about adding another washer like the clymer manual says to increase spring pressure and thus oil pressure?

Also the chamber that this is in goes from the filter to the bottom front of the motor where it looks like it goes into a passage way that leads to the main bearings. Can I run a little Mobil 1 down this just before putting on the pan on to lube up the mains real good?

Should be able to get a good amount in the rod bearings from the top but am worried about the mains after cleaning the heck outta the whole bottom end. Thanks.

Maybe one more question.....whats a cheap rag that won't put off strings or lint, everything I have is not the best.

I wouldn’t do anything Clymer recommends. Kawasaki designed the engine and the relief valve, so I would trust them to have come up with the correct spring pressure. If you are concerned about the relief valve I suggest you replace the assembly. It is still an “Active” Kawasaki part (part # 16130-1001) so any dealer can order it. Ronayers.com lists it at $21.47. Double check the part number in case I made a mistake.

I would not use plain automotive Mobil-1. Like nearly all automotive oils is has friction modifiers that are not good for our clutches. However, you may want to use Mobil-1 Racing 4T synthetic oil. It is specially formulated for motorcycles with wet clutches (see link below). I have been using it for years and like it.

That's a really stupid suggestion from Clymers. The pop-off valve limits the MAX oil pressure, you don't want to raise that. What screws up engines is the minimum oil pressure (like at hot idle) when that drops to low. Screwing with that valve is a mistake.

Any oil that says "energy conserving" on the can should never go in a bike engine, it will screw up the clutch. If Mobil 1 has that, keep away. Most all 5-30 and 10-30 auto oils now have that, most 10-40 and 20-50 do not, but always check the can.
