So, I'm rebuilding my KZ1000 K2 motor. What happened was I ordered all the gaskets, seals, and standard size rings from Z1Enterprises. When the parts arrived, I dropped a ring in the bore to check the gap and it was HUGE. I figured, "this can't be right...", so I brought the engine guy at the local Kawi dealer over, which happens to be right next door to where I was. He explained to me that at one point in time it was bored over and these bigger pistons were dropped in. The big "50" stamped on the top of all the pistons slipped my mind completely. I talked to Rob at Z1Enterprises, and thankfully he can take the wrong sized rings back, but where I'm stuck at is finding the proper sized rings... I'm pretty broke, so I can't really spend too much more than I'm getting back for these other rings. Do any of you guys know where I can find what I'm looking for without breaking the bank? Any help is really, really appreciated. I expected to have this motor going vroom vroom a week ago ;)

Thanks!

PS. it's part # 13025-5018!

I don't know about their pricing buy you might try these guys: www.hastingsmfg.com/
0.050" over is kind of a wierd size.

I thought the same thing. Could the engine guy be wrong, and it's actually 0.50mm over? I thought it was strange that a metric company would do something fifty thousandths over, but he's been doing this forever so I just took his word for it. 0.050" turns out to be 1.27mm, that also seems like a lot. Can anyone confirm this? 0.50mm makes much more sense.

0.5 mm over makes more sense to me. It sounds like someone with a bore gage needs to measure your cylinders for you. Or at least measure the pistons with some calipers to confirm the size.

And would be consistent with two sizes of oversize pistons available from KHI for the Z1 and KZ1000 (1973~1979), being 0.5 mm (0.20 inch) , and 1.0 mm (.040 inch).

Good Fortune! :)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI saw those, and also these, but it's pretty expensive. Found a dealer in Louisiana who has an old set sitting on their shelf as well, but they want $62 a hole. Gonna keep looking. Maybe I should just buy someone's stock jugs and pistons

If you're going to be looking for used cylinder block and piston set, look for 81-82 KZ/GPz 1100 parts. That should be a bolt on big bore for cheap :)
