OK, just bought a 1981 kz550 LTD c2 that was in for repairs at a local shop(bent valve) , replaced and lapped the valves , no problem but one of the oil o-ring spacers was missing so I ordered one from the dealer, the old one looked like a pez with a hole in it, the new one is shaped different (dealer said it's an updated part), is there a special way this is to be installed ?

thanks

Can you put a photo up of the part?
Your engine is almost identical to one I have apart at the moment so I can help if I 'm sure which part you refer to.

Is this the Dowl Pin at the cylinder to engine block? It has a small oil hole on the top for restriction of flow. There was one also with the basket case KZ550 I bought a few years back. I bought another and installed it. Never had any issues, got it right from Kawasaki. To me it made sense to have the Dowl at each end of the Cylinders for locating, but it seemed like 1 restriction would be enough. The restriction allows for more oil to stay at the crankshaft, rods and main journals.

I had a look at the underside of the head and the top of the cylinder block and found that the block has a single vertical oil gallery which feeds through the part in question to the head which has 2 approx 45 degree galleries coming away from the block.CMSNL.COM lists the part as superceded but doesn't show the weird part in your picture. (PIN,OIL LINE 92043-1210 superceded by 92043-1546) found on www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1981-kz550-c2-ltd.../partslist/9778.html
Motorhead is referring to the part on the right in the piccy.

The picture on CMSNL of CYLINDER/PISTONS is at images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/cylinder...ae0280e1120_e82c.gif

So I guess it has something to do with the division of galleries but as the original part is symmetrical I doubt it makes any difference.Take a look at the weird part and see if it has a division inside, if so then I would guess that it goes up the way it is in your picture.
We do have some engine experts on here so hopefully one of them will chime in.
Sorry I can't be more help but if it really bothers you I have 2 spare of these...(but I live in England)!!!

Best Regards. :)
