Can anyone link me to old builds? was created by KZ802
I am trying to find write ups on old builds like for example Old Man Rock's where he explains what went into changing swingarms etc. I know it has been gone over a bunch of times but I can't seem to find it. Any other builds would be great too. I'm starting to work on my 1978 KZ1000B2 and I was thinking of going the 2003-04 zx636 swingarm route and I'd like to see what goes into changing the rear end out.
thanks
Chris

Check out ramtough's build, "Thrown together to ride till winter" Just seen it up close and it's worth the time to check it out! He needs to give himself more credit. ;)

I would love some help. First I have to say Wow! I just sat and read almost your whole build thread it's awesome! Books are overrated!
anyways I'm planning on getting the same swingarm I guess since I don't have it yet I'm not really sure what it's going to take to make it fit. At this point I'm sticking with the twin shock setup. I have barely just started on my build and I so much to do I'm not going to worry about mono shock, relocating battery etc. etc. etc. So I guess I'm just wondering what you had to do to make the pivot fit in the KZ frame?

Thanks man appreciate you checking it out.

if it were me doing it 1st thing I would do is contact Leon (blackbanshee) send him your swingarm and let his do his bushing trick and see if he will make you an offset sprocket for the front.

while you are at it I would see if he or Les Holt would make you a reverse caliper mount. so you can relocate your caliper to the bottom of the wheel you will run into trouble with your shock mounts. and not to forget shock mounts have to be welded to the swingarm.

What size wheel and tire are you going with and also what yr wheel?

also the rear brake pedal has a huge boss on the frame that will need ground down some for the swinger to pivot. like a 3rd grader with a new toy at christmas I started ripping my package open and cut mine completely off!

unless you are going with late model rearsets just trim it it is way over engineered and wont suffer from the trim.

once you get the swingarm trimmed and the bushings made to except your pivot boltput the shocks on
whith the bike on the jack lower it until you get the ride height and shock angle where you want it then have your mounts welded on.

there are a couple ways to do the brake bracket a reverse mount with or without a brake stay can be made. I am sure there are other ways, But after doing mine the reverse mount would have been the easiest for me. ( I dont have a ton of drag parts laying around to to make work.

Hope this has helped some

The ZX6 arms are probably the easiest route for a mono shock project. They're narrower than a late model ZX7 arm.

When you're setting it all up, keep in mind the bike will sit considerably lower when you install the engine.

I just bought a 2005 zx6rr track bike that came with a second complete set of wheels with rotors and bearings and everything so I guess that's what I'm going with on my KZ. score!
