camshaft cover leak was created by shimkus
first wanted to say thanks to those on here who share thier knowledge and experience.. i've learned alot.
as far as my problem goes, i noticed a tiny oil leak coming from the nut on the front left end of the camshaft cover. i tried to tighten it and it wouldnt budge. does this mean the gaskets busted inside?

I am unaware of KZ camshaft covers with nuts. What kind of bike is this, a Harley?

Welcome to KZR. Hopefully with the bike year and model info your question will be answered soon. You can add the bike info into your user profile under signature for all past and present posts. That will help alot for getting the right answers.
So the bolt won't turn in or out, as in seized? Or it won't tighten any further? Year of the bike, etc so the correct answer can be had.

Sorry, I meant bolt. its not siezed, just wont tighten further. im 85% sure its a gasket rip on the inside thats leaking up and out.

Perhaps the bolt is too long.
Meaning it might not be the correct length bolt for this particular application.
Good Fortune!

The 20 cylinder head bolts are all the same, so if you think it may be the wrong length you can pull any of the other bolts and compare it. However, if you cannot tighten it any further because it just keeps turning and not getting tighter you have stripped the threads in the cylinder head and will need to have that repaired. To be safe, you should be using a torque wrench calibrated in Inch Pounds to tighten those bolts because it doesn't take much ooomph to strip them. They should be torqued to 61 - 78 inch pounds. Ed

Check your valve clearances when you have the valve cover off. On the 650 it has the shims for the lash setting below the cam follower bucket. So that means the camshafts would have to be removed for changing the shim. have you got a Factory Service Manual for your bike? If not hopefully someone will be kind enough to post a link to a download.
I would check to be sure it is not leaking from the tach drive gear seal, as that is real common.
You can get your parts at z1enterprises.com

Last edit: 08 Apr 2012 11:22 by shimkus. Reason: not the cable, but the port going into the engine
