Wrist pin circlip fell in the hole was created by Sketchproject
When I was installing the pistons ('75 kz400), one wristpin circlip fell into the crankcase (yes, the hole was covered with a rag & it still fell in). I heard it hit the crankcase plate near the bottom of the engine. After trying to retrieve it for 45 minutes (magnets, flashlight, long needle-nose pliers, vacuum), I'm pretty sure it fell below that plate. I really don't want to separate the halves again for a stupid like freakin' circlip. What's the chance that it will grenade the engine? Might it just disintigrate instead? Any ideas what to do? I'm really frustrated right now.

You can't leave it in there.Get it out, persevere with the magnet.
If you don't,you can bet your life(literally) that it'll self destruct at the most awkward moment(at speed,in traffic).
Get it out.

I looked it up. According to Mr. Murphy's Lawbook the odds are 100% it will not hurt your engine until you least expect it. Then it will.

I have had this happen and tried everything and failed to get it out. A friend suggested washing the cases with carb cleaned and sure enough it was stuck to the side of the case.

Can you try this and maybe the clip will move to where you can get to it? Roy

Pull the oil filter out first, and see if you can retrieve it there. If not then pull the oil pan/ sump off, then you can get the clip and clean the sump.

I know it felt REALLY good to see that clip come out on the magnet! Ed
