Chewing through starter brushes was created by n8miller
My 82 kz 750 has chewed through 3 starter rebuild kit brush sets in 3 years. I finally put an expensive oem set on and I haven't opened her up yet but I think shes chewed through these already. I only crank her 15-30 times a year so I know it's not over use. Any suggestions?

I would say your bushings are worn out.

Only 15-30 times cranking to wear out the brushes seems extremely excessive even if the motor bearings were shot.
Sounds more like inferior grade carbon brushes but if the OEM ones go the same way then i'd look at the surface they run on.
If the commutator is badly worn, uneven and dirty this will cause the excessive wear .
Also a bad contact area will cause arcing which will eat brushes in the same action as an arc welder transfers material from the filler rod to the workpiece.
I would recommend setting the armature in a lathe and trueing up the commutator and then cut back the mica so that the new brushes have a clean, unworn even surface to run on.
