My 80 Classic has some rubber well plugs, and some are bad. I saw drill and tap, but afraid some shavings would get in motor. Block off plates?

I saw a Classic week before last that had JB weld in the for over 20 years. Just be sure to clean the holes out good. roy

Nickle 38 special cases with JB weld.
If you are worried about tapping chips getting into the engine, rotate the crank until the exhaust valve is closed on each port you are tapping Once you have it tapped, just blow through the port with compressed air. Any chips should be blown out the exhaust ports.
Pull your exhaust pipes off and look into the ports to make sure you got em out. It's going to go out the exhaust anyway, so it shouldn't cause any problems internally.
One good way to catch most of the chips is to use tapping wax on your tap. In my experience it catches most of the chips made from tapping.
Hope this helps.

That sounds like it would work but I'd take off the header FIRST. You don't want chips sitting in your exhaust. If you're running WOT and suddenly snap the throttle shut, it's possible to suck the debris back into your motor. May not happen, but not worth the risk. I've seen a few cars suck the disintegrated catalytic converters into the motor.

Yes, the fuel injector holes on a "G" model. I ended up keeping the well plugs. I put some sealant around em and made some block-off plates from small aluminum angle stock, using the two screws to mount them. This keeps the plugs from popping out.
