...cracked at the top front bolt, flexes under clutch pressure, just a matter of time before it let's go.

looks like the KZ1000 "J" cover only black with lots of holes....
saw a few that looked similar when I was cleaning up a bit over the weekend,
I will see if I can find them again

`
p.s. if you want one with all those holes it will take longer

I thought I had found one, but when it arrived, turned out to be what I think is an 81 or 82, and damaged at that. That's why I posted looking for a pic of the earlier ones because the seller says only the 83/84s have the mount for the shifter. Also, the shifter mount on the 81/82s is further forward needing all the linkage and shifter as well, whether it will match up to my pegs I don't know.
In the meantime I JB welded mine on the inside, but it didn't hold. Ground it out, and "really JB welded it" with some reinforcing rods and it's been fine, so far.
Still looking for an 83/84 cover though. Thanks for asking.

The 81 and 82 GPZ1100 covers appear to be the same as the one you pictured, also the 82 1000j should work too. I'll download a pic of my cover so you can compare them. Check out kawasaki.com, click on motorcycles, then click on owners info, then click on parts diagrams, then you click continue beside the word motorcycle, click on parts diagrams, then click on 1000GP,GPZ1000,replica,or maybe 82 1000 standard(J). Look under "engine covers" and compare the 7 digit part numbers. This will tell you what you need to look for. Hope this helps Fossil.Good hunting.

Thanks bob_Z1, that confirms what I thought, Oldkawman sent me an 81/82 sprocket cover stating only the 83/84s had the shifter mount. So now I have the wrong cover and it's not in VGC as he claimed. Now, in his defence he did offer to refund my money if I'm not happy with it, but with postage costing $23USD to get it here, and back at another $23, plus the $16 duty and tax I had to pay because he neglected to state it was a used part, it wasn't worth it shipping it back for just the refund on the part. I emailed him saying it wasn't worth it and never heard from him, so I'm further ahead to throw it out and eat the $100CDN+ I'm out.
