Cam caps was created by rustedcutlery
I recently purchased a j head off of gypsy bay, but with no cam caps. Will any kz1000 cam cap work? Or do I need to have j head cam caps?

Thanks, rusted

You should contact the seller and see if he can possibly find the cam caps. The journal for the cam in the cam caps and head are machined together, so using caps from another head may lead to problems. I'm not saying it cannot be done, but if possible always keep the head and caps together.

Thank you for the response. I understand the reasoning for using the caps that were machined for the head. If I cannot get the caps for this head, I plan on taking the head, and some caps to the local machine shop to get line honed.

650ed is spot on, that Feebay seller is not doing anyone any good. I see them listed all of the time without the Caps, then the same seller is also listing the caps separately. These guy's are Breakers not mechanics, they think they can get more money by selling separately.

Contact the seller and try to find the correct caps. If he's 100% sure that he has the correct caps, go with it. If not, there are plenty heads out there with the caps installed. .000002 cents.

There is a guy on here that just sold a J head without caps. He has several heads for sale without caps, says he has a pile of caps to go with them. Was it a guy from here?

I'm not sure if he is on here or not. I didn't realize it didn't have caps till after the fact. I don't want to pull caps off of any of my heads, so if anyone knows of any caps they have laying around, let me know. I only paid 100 for the head, so I guess it's not like I'm out a huge amount.

Edit: I just sent the seller a message stating my concerns about the caps. The seller's name is kzchoppers2011 on eBay. Maybe someone knows him?

The seller replied to me, and he doesn't have the caps. He said if he found some he would send them to me at no cost, but then again I haven't left feedback yet either..

I seriously doubt that just any cam caps are going to work. The Caps are machined, for the bearing inserts, while on the head. So as 650ed said already, you really need the caps from the head.

I wouldnt leave him bad feedback over it unless it had pics of the cam caps in it or said it came with cam caps. Its the buyers responsibility to know what all your getting before you buy. just because you didnt know about the cam caps being made with the head its not his fault, unless previously stated that they where included or they were in the pics. i pisses me off when people leave bad feedback over chit like that. ITS THE BUYERS RESPONSIBILTY TO KNOW WHAT YOUR BUYING BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!

First off, I never said I was going to leave bad feedback. I was simply stating that a seller will tell you what you want to hear when you haven't left feedback yet.

Secondly, I think aslong as I can find a set of cam caps, and get them line bored, I should be fine. I know this happens a lot with automotive engine blocks.
