Where the hell is the rest of the front fender?! I made cardboard templates of the case, oil pan and side covers and put the bolts in the locations they came from so I didn't mix up where the longer ones came from. As for the clymer it WILL work, factor manual is nice but you can do it without it. As for the post about stripped out cam cap bolts, if you install them wrong that happens, hardly makes it the manuals fault.

Exhaust smoking might result from worn valve stem seals, especially if the smoking is worse when first starting a cool engine and gets less after riding a few miles.

While the smoking may be due to worn oil rings, or a damaged oil ring, would first check for:
Fuel contaminated oil;
Fresh oil;
Fresh oil filter;
Correct viscosity;
Proper oil level;
Clear crankcase breather;
Worn valve guides.

As known, acceptable compression test results indicate good compression rings, but don't negate a possible oil ring issue.

Exhaust popping on deceleration may be caused by a too lean carb pilot circuit. Could turn each pilot air screw in clockwise, say 1/4~1/2 turn, and test run for effect.

Good Fortune! :)

Rings may be shot. Running with no air filtration will kill an engine quick. Do a compression and leakdown test to confirm. Ed

Finally decided to stop bein a bitch and get my hands dirty again. Popped off the clutch cover and the gasket does not want to come off the housing. Went after it with a blade for a minute figured I'd see if you guys had a less abrasive approach? I really don't want to fuck anything up. :(

Decided to skip past the gasket issue for now. Started to tear the motor down and got all the nuts off the head but one it started come back out then stopped. I'm afraid that I broke the bolt off down in the crank case but I can't tell because I can't seem to get the head loose so I can pull it off. The valve cover had a gasket and a shit ton of silicone. I wonder if this might have the same. Any suggestion other than beat it with a mallet? That hasn't gotten me anywhere so far.
