stall when put into gear

Idling well at 1100 when i shift into gear, she lurches and dies immediately. There is no Kickstand sensor... However, i tried to shift with the choke still on.. Smooth.. slips right into gear. What could cause this?

Is this happening with the engine cold? The clutch tend to stick first thing in the morning, and the force needed to unstick it, as in getting the friction discs to slip, can be greater than the power your engine makes at 1100 rpm. So either use some more rpm or put the bike in gear before starting the engine and push it forward with the clutch pulled until it frees. Keep the clutch pulled while you start, but with the tranny in neutral, to prevent it to stick again.

The engine was pretty warmed up. i had her running at least five minutes

I think i had a cylinder that may have been cutting out. One was running too rich and started backfiring through the carb and pipe on idle. So i think it was flooding on the right side. I fixed that and she went into gear. Still doesnt explain why it would go into gear on the choke. Maybe the airflow was pulling in more gas. I put my hand over the intake to the carb and i felt gas on my hand when i cut the air flow. Waay too much gas.. I fixed it and after warm up, she went into gear.

Even if the engine was warm, if the clutch was pulled for the first time the plates can still stick. Now that you have restored full power, the engine can unstick the friction plates without stalling. Problem solved
