I have a 1977 KZ1000B1 LTD that was given to me that I am trying to restore. I'd like to replace the pipes because they are a bit rusted and dented but can not find anyone who makes any to fit. I called MAC Exhaust and they said that the 4 into 2 that they have will not fit the LTD. Anyone know who makes pipes to fit this bike.

Would likely fit if don't mind fabbing a different hanger.

Thinking Kerker and Vance & Hines are still available, at least in the 4>1 version.

Hanger is easy to build.

That's what I figured. If that's all I would have to do, that'll work.

Z1E offers Kerker and V&H, and likely the dual-muffler cross-over-Z-pipes.

Here's a link to the V&H:

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go for the MAC and make a bracket. I really would like to stay with the 4 into 2 style.

I think Jardine makes a better exhaust. Roy

Jardine also made the OEM pipes for the early 1015 LTD line. If you decide at some time to go to a 4into1 pipe, their can be issues. I have an acquaintance with a old school 4into1 Kerker. We pulled the pipe off his 1980 KZ1000LTD and put on a new V&H 4into 1 from my 1977 KZ1000 standard model. Although the header pipes fit, the muffler on the V&H came up beneath the rear footpeg and thus, could not be mounted on the bike without removing the footpeg, permanently.

Hey guys,
I recently bought a 1978 kz1000 LTD and I've been looking through the forums here for some info on the Vance & Hines exhaust. If I buy the LTD specific exhaust, will it have a different bracket on it that allows me to bolt it in the original spot on the bike? (lower and back from the passenger peg)or will the simply give me an additionnal bracket to make the standard exhaust fit.
Otherwise, in the picture you showed at the top of the page, is this a LTD specific exhaust or the regular one?
I'm asking all this because I want to maximise clearance on my LTD for cornering so I'd like the exhaust to end up as high and out of the way as on the other kz1000 models.

Hey Pete, thanks for the picture of your bike, this gives me a really good idea of what the clearance will be like. Would you happen to have a picture taken from the back or very close to the bracket so I can see how it's mounted?
When you ordered your exhaust, did you order the LTD specific one or you just made the regular kz1000 one fit?
