well, i tinkered with my KZ400 this evening....
did not get the clutch cover off, but getting close...
i came back here and was reviewing the posts/pics in the various threads and it occured to me that i might be able to "see" this shifter arm by peering into the oil fill hole (and using a strong light)...
I just peaked in the oil fill hole of my KZ305 - the bike that is acting up (the KZ400 is a "work in progress) - and i moved the shifter pedal around...
i can SEE the top portion of the shifter arm moving back and forth, but i'm 99% sure that the bottom half (overshifter limiter?)is either:
- missing (i.e., broken off)
or
- not engaging the "shift drum" (which is that cicular piece damaged in those photos)...
i'm going to move forward with this.... at the min, see if i can determine if that is indeed the case...
would be NICE to solve this one without a trip to the mechanic...
OH! do i need a "clutch holer" tool? or can i rig something?
thanks again...
