Imo, the reported issue more likely results from dirty carb pilot circuits, if it's indeed a fuel related issue.

Yes, I would agree that the pilot circuit is the main reason, but all that crud was still going into the carbs so it didn't matter how many times he cleaned the carbs, they would clog up again.
It won't hurt to clean the petcock real well
