cam specs. was created by sbjones
could some one tell me why the ape cams are spec'd in duration at .30 and the other cams like the web cams are at .50
does this mean that a cam from ape with the same amount of duration at .30 is not the same as a cam with duration measured at .50?
need some info on this one.
come on ape jay, tell the me the answer!!!!!
you the man jay!!!!
thanks

.020 and .030" are advertized specs so you can compare cams. .050 duration will be less, but it is much easier to check at that figure, so .020 is advertised duration, .030, .040. and.050 checking figures.
If you look in a Web Cam catalog, you will see " Duration, and duration @.050". We only give one number, so we do it at .030 which is high enough to check at.
If everyone just advertised .050" numbers, the cams would look like they have no duration.

266 at .050 vs 266 at.030 for instance. The first cam has a longer duration. The second cam will measure 260 or less when .050 checking height is used. The amount of valve clearance u run will determine the actual duration, and opening and closing numbers. More lash, less duration. Less lash more duration. Stay clear of lots of lash it beats the valve train. With less lash, duration is increase. This allows advancing of the intake cam without the ill effect of early intake closing that stops the power band flat. Unless your a truck pull fan or just get off on pulling stumps because you can.
