oil light flashing

i did an oil change last weekend on my 750R1, i put in 4 qts of oil and now the oil light started flashing. when the bike is off i see in the window that the oil is over filled past the top line. i dont even see the level since its over the top of the glass. my question is, since its over filled is that whats causing the light to flash? it never flashed before. the book says 3 1/2 qts with new filter. im sure thats with a stock oil cooler but my cooler is a lockhart which is twice as big as stock so thats why i put in 4 qts.

NOpe, overfull will not cause it to flash, check the wiring connection at the sender unit first up, make sure clean and tight. Did you change the filter, if yes, pull it and make sure is fitted correct and IS CORRECT part. My guess is light malfunction. Next step is bolt in a proper gauge and see what pressure you have, make sure is as per specs for your model.
cheers,

thanks, i guess ill pull the cover off and check the connection. i got the filter from my local kawasaki shop so i know its the correct filter. i did replace the washer and spring that goes under the filter since they were all bent up and were put on top of filter.

Some of them get air in the lines inside when you change the filter and that causes the sending unit to see low pressure. I have read some times you have to "burp" the filetr to get the air out. YMMV

if your sending unit is the same as a kz900/1000 try cleaning it out B)

im not sure if its the same. i rode the bike just now to go fill it up with gas. it blinked for about 2 miles and then stopped, so maybe it had some air in the system and it worked out, i hope anyways.

Had exactly the same problem this week when doing my oil change on my KZ750 R1...

Sometimes air bubbles get trapped in the sensor , and the oil while warming is releasing the air in the sensor (become more thin) and light goes off after a while

Usually after oil change the oil will light on and flash until i let the engine warm up for a few mins

Hope this help for the next time ;)

better trust the oil sight than the stupid oil level sensor.... if the gpz had a oil pressure sensor then i would be worried!

I don't know why they never but both sensors ... one can warn about low level of oil (level sensor) before it pumps air and one can warn when pump is failing (pressure sensor)

While I don't see a Level sensor in the Diagram, it would certainly explain the "After Oil Change" scenario.

You had the wrong diagram (Breather cover / oil pan section)

There you go ;)
