NOS kawasaki throttle cables PART NUMBER 54012-150

Does anyone know if NOS kawasaki throttle cables PART NUMBER 54012-150 fits all bikes that use this part number or is the same part number used for different models. example PART NUMBER 54012-150 KZ1000a is diffferent then PART NUMBER 54012-150 KZ1000 st e1?

Maw Kaw used the same parts on many different models. Therefore if a part appears on many models that part is identical.

I picked 2 up for my KZ1000st on ebay and they dont match the originals not even the PN/makers initials are marked on them. But they did come with a OEM tag from Kawasaki. I would think if the cables were model spacific the would be a different number.

By "originals" do you mean what's on the bike now? If so are you sure those are original Kawasaki parts and a previous owner didn't replace them with aftermarket?

Kawasaki factory produced throttle cable part numbers 54012-149 and 54012-150 are the two throttle cables that fit the following Kawasaki motorcycle models:

KZ1000-A1 (KZ1000) (1977)
KZ1000-A2 (KZ1000) (1978)
KZ1000-A2A (KZ1000) (1978)
KZ1000-A3 (KZ1000) (1979)
KZ1000-A3A (KZ1000) (1979)
KZ1000-A4 (KZ1000) (1980)
KZ1000-E1 (Shaft) (1979)
KZ1000-E2 (Shaft) (1980)

An aftermarket cable that supposedly fits any particular stock motorcycle application should make reference to the applicable original part number.

The stock dual throttle cables fitted to 1979 KZ1000 shaft drive motorcycle may be slightly different from each other due to curvatures at the handlebar end where they screw into the throttle housing.

According to kawasaki.com, 54012-149 is no longer "active," which means that such cable is no longer being produced by the original manufacturer, KHI (Kawasaki Heavy Industries), and is therefore no longer available through Kawasaki dealerships.

According to kawasaki.com, 54012-150 remains "active," which means that such cable is still available through Kawasaki dealerships.

Am uncertain, but wouldn't be surprised to learn that 54012-150 might be fitted to both push and pull cable applications on the KZ1000 shaft drive motorcycle.

The Motion Pro throttle cable listed by Z1E for 1979 KZ1000-E (shaft drive) is apparently intended for replacement of both original throttle cables.

Babbittsonline.com and Bike Bandit have the Kawi factory parts drawings for every year and model. On babbitts, when you find the P/N, you can plug it back into the search tool and it will list every year and model that it fits.

I checked the numbers on Babbits and Kawasaki on line and the originals matched the numbers. Actually 12-140 had a note that it was preceded by 12-149. Thats why I cant understand why the OEM Kawasaki 149 and 150 cables that I got on Ebay are different.

As throttle cables are relatively inexpensive, and in this case needed, could order a correct pair from Z1E, compare them to the ebay cables to determine any variation, and then decide how to proceed.

The control cables I've obtained from Z1E have always arrived promptly and fit perfectly.

Well I guess the question would be is the handlebars stock? If the PO went to a different bar then he had to probably go with a different cable.

You can use the "150" for both sides without issue, same for the aftermarket one too.
