Hi all,

Ok... i posted the otherday about my oil leak/valve adjust question...

I'm moving forward with adjusting the valves on my 1978 KZ400 (dead bike) to learn the rodes to do it RIGHT on my 1987 KZ305 (my ride)...

2 quick questions:

1) i friend thought that the "Valve Adjusting Caps" should be retightened to a certain "torque", yet the manual does not say anything about "torque" for the caps. Should i dig and dig to find info on this? or tighten them down and hard as i can (when i'm finished)?

2) The manual DOES mention a "torque" for the locknuts, so... any thoughts on best/most useful/"reasonble" torque wrench for this task (also, if the Caps have to be set to a certain torque, i'd need to get a proper wrench for that as well)...

Thanks...

got the bike in the middle of the garage and the caps are off and the right cylander is set at "T"... i'm ready to check my gaps and move ahead...

:)

Hi Guys,

i figured i'd change the subject heading to "highlight" my most urgent need...

My manual for this KZ400 (1978) has no indication of a "torque" when puuting valve adjusting caps back on...

do KZ's in general NOT have a torque requirement for this???

thanks....

You need to set caps to a torque specs. If not you will distort metal strip threads break bolts. Remember your engine vibrates, heats, and cools so any bolt not torqued will loosen or fail, not to mension cause engine damage.

sure....

that is what i figured (and glad my friend gave me the heads up), but the manual (as far as i can tell) does not give any specs for torque for these caps....

i'll keep digging...

maybe someone out there will stummble over this post and show me the way...

thanks...
