I had one cylinder on my 77 650 with bad compression, so I decided to take a look.
When I got the block off, the offending cylder was scratched up, and the piston was not in such good shape. All of the rings were caked with deposit, and could not move at all in their slots. So next step to remove the piston.
Got the wire C clip out, but the pin that holds it to the connecting rod wont budge.
I can see the pin actually slide in the piston side to side, but it seems stuck very tight to the con-rod. Seems strange since the manual says the clearance is tighter on the piston than the conecting rod.
Anyone seen this before?
My clymer manual suggests to make a puller, wich I will do, but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas, tricks or suggestions, or if this is normal?
Thanks

You know that there's a c-clip on BOTH sides of the wrist-pin,right?...(You mention that You only removed one)
Try heating the piston up and see if that helps You in removing the wrist-pin?...

Yeah, sorry I forgot to mention, that one of the clips was missing, (could be the root cause).
But it wont go in either direction, and tried the heat method, but no luck.

Thanks

Try rigging something up with a big C-clamp,and maybe a wooden dowel...or even a bolt the same diameter(O.D.) of the pin??...a block of wood on the opposite side, with a hole drilled in it,so the pin has an opening to slide through,on it's way out?...hmmm...thinking here...come on Guys...Tony...speak up MAn!

There is a home made puller,in the clymer manual made with threaded rod, nuts, and washers that I will make later today, but this seems a little excessive force, unless the pin has siezed to the con-rod.
If this is the normal tight fit, how can I get it back together??

First of all...it should be that tight of a fit...something isn't right there(obviously). If You can get it out, that's the first step...then You can have a better look at what's going on.Because there was a c-clip missing...the pin probably slid out and got heated right up and seized in the co-rod...maybe?...just guessing here...

I agree with that theory.
Ill post the results when I get the puller built, and pull that sucker out.

Thanks for the input.

As the pins move back and forth in a running engine, they will pound on the clips. Over time, this will cause a burr on the clip groove. You can get the clip out, but the burr on the clip groove will keep the pin fron coming out.
