oil leak by kick start, and other help!!

so ive had a slight oil leak by the kick start arm? anyone ever experience this? should i just live with it?

also, on my way home from the beach tonight i hit a nasty pot hole and my headlight went out, but i turned ignition off then back on and it worked but when i started the bike back up the headlight went off? ever hear of anything like this?

Year, model of bike? Mileage? Previously owned?

I'd open up the headlight housing and check the wiring. Most bikes have a three prong socket the plugs into the headlight bulb.


Color Codes On Most Kawasaki’s

HEADLIGHT
RED with BLACK stripe, High Beam.
RED with YELLOW stripe, Low Beam.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

BRAKE/TAIL LIGHT Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
RED, Running or Tail Light.
BLUE,(sometimes with a Red stripe) Brake Light Circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1157 dual filament bulb
GREEN, Left front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Left front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT FRONT TURN SIGNAL Can be an # 1157 dual filament bulb
GREY, Right front turn signal circuit.
BLUE, Right front running light circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

LEFT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREEN, Left rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

RIGHT REAR TURN SIGNAL Can be an #1156 single filament bulb
GREY, Right rear turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

Yes, I did - and no, you shouldn't just live with it.

There's an oil seal around the kicker shaft, replace it and it should stop the leak.

Not sure what bike we're talking about, but on my 650 I was able to pry out the old seal and tap in the new one from the outside without removing the clutch cover, took me no more than 10 minutes at most.

79 kz400 ltd with 2200 original miles. Figured everything out except the leak ill be ordering the new seal soon.

I have the same oil leak on my 79 kz400 and can't find the propee seal for the life of me. Any chance you have a link to it or a part number or anything?
