I thought all I had to do was unscrew the knurled nut and pop it out but the old seal is in there good and does not want to come out.
Thanks.

Running to the hardware store for a larger socket. Anyone know the size of that nut? Looked like a 20 or 21mm.
Also z1 was out of the o-rings. Maybe I can get that at the store too. I think it's a 10mm o-ring. Is that right?

The seal is a small circular rubber ring affair with a tiny coiled spring around it.
The seal is inexpensive, and is available at Z1 Enterprises.
A dental pick or similar tool is handy to scratch out the remains.

A good light and magnifying glass is also helpful.
A properly functioning and sealed tach drive should not leak whatever, even without the tach cable attached.
Good Fortune!

I have the new seal and I've been digging out the old one with a sharp knife. But I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get all the little pieces. Not to mention I don't see that little retaining spring anywhere on the original.
Thought maybe I would have to take the connector off and get it from the backside.
When I fit the new one does the small spring face the front or rear tire ?

So I pulled the aluminum connection/seal housing off the head, removed the old seal, and cleaned it out real good.
Now it is time for reassembly. Do I just stick the worm gear in the head? Or is there a particular alignment trick I need to know. It appears to align itself but just wanted to double check.
Oh yeah, Patton good call on the dental picks, really came in handy.
