I cant seem to tighten it enough by hand while holding the other side of the engine. Or putting it gear and locking the brake... Can I use an impact gun to tighten it?

NO, you should NEVER use anything other than a tension/torque rench, you will break the bolt or stretch it otherwise. Use some light valve grind past to "lap" the flywheel to the end of the crank first, then make sure flywheel taper and crank taper are VERY CLEARN using solvent, make sure key is in PERFECT condition then fit it all up and use BLUE loctite AND TENSION RENCH.

try a strap/oil filter wrench to hold it while you tighten it with a ratchet, kawasaki does make a tool for holding gear if you can find one B)

My 1000 doesn't have a woodruff key. I hit the rotor bolt with a 3/8" impact and haven't had a problem. I tried to hold mine with a strap wrench but couldn't get the torque on it before it would slip.

They actually make a tool to screw into your spark plug hole, which will end up keeping the piston from reaching TDC holding the motor for such purposes as to torque the flywheel. Also you can use a piece of soft cotton rope, as long as you are on the compression stroke, both valves closed. This will fill the combustion chamber with rope and as the tool end up keeping the motor from reaching TDC holding the motor.

On mine you can use a giant flatblade screwdriver with the tip hooked into the hole in the flywheel with the handle wedged into the frame where the footpeg mounts.

It has a lag bolt screwed in where the blue line is, and then the bolt head is cut off.
