Early Z1 Cly. Head Value?? was created by z1kzonly
Hello, I have an early Z1, low Vin# cylinder head with the manifold nipple holes.
First 2000 or so engines.
But it has a spark plug broken off! It has been like this for years and needs machining.
Broke an easy out, years ago trying to get it out!

But I am going to sell this core when I fix the plug hole.
All others are good.

Just wondering the value like it is or totally redone with a $500 dollar bill from my machinist

Or just the core with the plug hole fixed?

Either way I am selling it on ebay. One sold a couple of years ago NOS factory for $1800

Thanks for any opinions.

I would soak that plug with Kroil for a week or 2 and have another go at taking it out. Otherwise the machinist might end up damaging the head threads and installing a timesert which will lower the value of the head. Ed

I,m trying to find some "Kroil" locally! $20 bucks? Don't have patience to wait for an online shipment.

Does Kroil work on aluminum head + metal plug fusion?

You can see the broken plug in the hole middle plug to the right

Reportedly, a 50-50 mix of ATF and acetone works as well or better than Kroil, PBBlaster, Liquid Wrench, etc.

Good Fortune! :)

I used Kroil on the KZ650 head to loosen 8 carb holder screws that had been in place for 30 years. I soaked them for 2 days and they all came out with no problem. I also used it on the rear master cylinder brake rod adjuster threads that were REALLY stuck, 2 day soak and problem gone. I ordered mine (the little $7 / 8 oz. can with attached spout) directly from Kano Labs. and it came in a couple days. Ed

It has value only to a collector or if you have the low numbered bike & engine that it goes on. A buddy here in Billings found a crapper down on the Rez & sold it to a Japanese importer that specializes in Z1s for 10 grand on Ebay last year with a head like that on it. Classic Runners USA Inc is the guy to talk too about selling it. I sold him 2 73 Z1s this last summer too & thats who bought the Ebay bike. Hes hard to understand and hard to deal with but his money is good. He has a web site also. Start high !!!!! My name is Woody Woods , whether that will help you or not I cant say.

Can anyone find a picture of the vacuum nipples that are used on this early head?
Can't see it in the manuals I have
I see one on ebay now with a broken fin and 2 broke exhaust studs, selling for $455.
I am sure they are brass, This current ebay one shows them straight.
But I recall a set of NOS on the bay years ago, they looked bent, with a 135 degree angle.
I fixed this head's plug.
want to finish it up.
Thanks for any information.

I believe I have a drawing of the most common nipples (straight type).
They were turned out of 8.0 mm brass hex stock.
Overall length is 27.8 mm
Threaded section length is 9.0 mm.
Thread measured 6.18 mm dia, 1mm pitch or 26 tpi?
Length of hex section is 4mm.
Nipple bulge is 6.44 dia.
Thin part of nipple shank is 5.0mm.
Bore is 2.5mm dia.

Now let's see if I can scan this diag.

PS.. No good with scan I'll take a photo tomorrow!
