I have some fairly significant valve clatter on my 80 kz750e. Before pulling cams and doing major valve work I checked my clearances and they seem okay, any ideas.

The 750E has an automatic cam chain tensioner, and sometimes they will start sticking and fail to adjust, usually due to wear caused by vibration.
You need to take it out and check it.

If you don't have a manual get one at kz.mbsween.com/

90% of the time "valve clatter" is an exhaust leak. If you've had the exhaust off for any reason, look there first, and also around the emissions valves on the valve cover.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
