assembly of clutch actuator and pushrod
02 Apr 2011 00:46
Hello, assembling another sprocket cover(to replace a broken one) on my 80 kz1000 Ltd. this was apart when i bought the bike so I have a question about assembly order, I can't tell from the parts diagram. There is a 3/8 steel ball located somewhere in the mix does it go between the pushrod and the actuator on the sprocket cover or is it internal inside the exterior shift linkage cover? any help would be appreciated.

Or order a Ape race Parts KCB900 needle bearing clutch pusher.

The manual says to remove the pushrod from the case when disassembling. should the pushrod just pull out of the tunnel? mine has about 1/4 inch end play but will not pull out. I have not tried to use much force pulling on it. I do not see any clips or retainers on the parts diagram. Thanks.

Yeah it just pulls right out. Mine was a little gummed up but it came out easy enough. When you get it out make sure it's not bent.

Now that's a great idea.

This replaces Part No. 10 as shown in the exploded view.
Will continue using the push rod and ball bearing.

Agreed... Having had a Clutch Actuator Lock-up/Seize while riding, it gave me a complete understanding of the benefit of this part.

I think this may be what happend to my bike. Trying to piece together the issues the bike may have. Cracked sprocket cover, repaired (welded) clutch actuator mechanism. they actually had the hole where the pushrod goes into the actuator filled with weld, and the pushrod tight in the case. I believe I will be pulling the clutch and inspecting the innards in the near future.
