Careful...I don't know how often Kawasaki updates their site but I have ordered parts that were listed as 'Active' only to have them ultimately declined because they were actually NLA and incorrectly listed...this is the same info as the dealers get (except they know the prices).
Can't say that I have ever experienced this problem.

unless something has changed, the stock size rings are no longer aval from any manufacture or OEM.
I found a set on fleabay, and they were not cheap, the other option is to go over size, but that does require some machine work also

It's a decent indicator, but from experience I can tell you it's not accurate. I would say it's 95% accurate. We've had enough exceptions to realize it's not perfect.
Half the time they say "available, limited quantity" it's very limited quantity - like zero...
In a couple of cases parts showing inactive are routinely in stock...
Sadly Kawasaki has removed many part numbers from the online system and negated the real worth of the fiche. When you look at carb parts for the kz650, it's gone - totally. Many of the piston rings are gone (yet in some cases they are still being sold - i.e. 13025-5004).
As many of you know, Kawasaki.com lists whether or not the part you are looking for is active, active in limited quantity or cancelled. You can use this function before you go to your favorite online Kawasaki parts source. I have had great experiences from RonAyers.com.

My local dealership recommended to contact old dealerships for NLA parts collecting dust. Only problem is I don't know how to figure out who's old and who's new.
Kawi's computer system can't search other dealerships. They can put out a part request (good luck with that) or you just have to call each dealer by phone.
BTW - Cradley Kawasaki over in UK has a crapload of old stuff. Good people and ship real fast to the US.

Seeing as you are in western Canada I would suggest Burnaby Kawasaki. I've had them ship to me in the interior, good service, knowledgable staff. You will get actual oem parts,no border hassles and should get the parts fairly quick. Where abouts in the west are you?

Pretty true, but it's because they order stuff from Kawi and don't find out it's been discontinued until the shipment they get from Kawi arrives minus some parts.RonAyers.com is another place that seems to have discounted prices. However, I don't know how they operate. A lot of places will show prices for everything, but don't have & can't get a lot of stuff. Others have reported that BabbitsOnline will take your money first, send you what they have, then tell you afterwards what they can't get - kinda deceptive. And a nuisance if the one thing they send is no use without the other.
