Cleaning/polishing cases--what did you use?
08 Mar 2011 07:34
i have like a peeling and a white corroded look to my cases, head and whatnot...
i used my dremmel and polishing wheel to clean and polish my small area where my foot pegs go and that turned out nicely...but that area was not to damaged...
so i tried the cases and no luck...
wondering whats the solution yall came up with...
light sanding then some polish possibly?
thanx for any input

A picture of the current condition would be helpful, I think.
Most people do some fine/wet sanding and then metal polish, I believe.

Having a polished engine is nice and pretty if you like maintaining all that surface area on a regular basis forever.
I use my bike for daily commutes and keeping it clean is literrally impossible nonsense.
Just clean it real good and Gun-Kote it. Then cleanup is just a garden hose, a gentle scrub brush, and a quick ride/dry away
I dont have the time to polish/wax/elbow grease the shit out of her every week - TOO MANY OTHER TOYS!
Peace.

08 Mar 2011 13:51Bead blasted, thoroughly washed and washed again, then scotchbrite to various grits of sandpaper.Finished up with my favourite polish from the Ragman in Norwalk.
These MKll cases were as bad as I've ever seen as far as appearance, bought for $100. Once you get them clean it's not really hard to keep 'em clean, mind you I don't ride in the rain anymore either.

Take a look at the Nuvite site below. Nuvite offers several grades of metal (aluminum) polish from coarse to very fine so you can get a quick cut on corroded metal and then move to a finer grade. It’s used on airplanes, and the finest compound leaves a nice shine.
Nuvite
For finishing work I also recommend S100 finish restorer paste or X-treem polish wading. Both of these leave a very fine finished shine.

I used sandpaper on my carburetor top caps and my clutch cover on my 81' KZ1000.. i started at 400 grit and worked my way up to like 1500 grit i think. It gave the case covers a nice smokey looking poslished kind of look. Note- after doing this, i used that mother's polish stuff and buffed it into the metal but it seems that after a few days or so that they get those oxidized spots on the metal. i dont know how to seal them afterwards. they look beautiful after they're done but then they get all messed up again. i wouldnt mind getting some help too:)

01 Apr 2011 04:50How do you get in between the fins and into the other hard to reach places? This Nuvite polish looks fantastic.650ed wrote: Take a look at the Nuvite site below.
