Sometimes it helps by removing the sparkplug caps, cutting 1/4" off the sparkplug wires and re-installing the caps.

I believe the caps should have 5K of resistance when tested with a multimeter. New ones are available at www.z1enterprises.com and I'd imagine at the motorcycle shops.

YES.

Cylinders 1-4 on one coil, cylinder 2-3 on the other. If the bike wont start after, or backfires, you've got them backwards. Just switch the 1-2 wires, then the 3-4 wires.

Note the image: how the wires go from the coils... Good luck.

What do #1 and #3 spark plugs look like? Real sooty? Clean as new? Or other?

Plug reading might help diagnose a possible carb issue such as for instance too high fuel level inside float bowls.

Sorry, but are you sure that the wires coming out of one coil are going to the outside two cylinders? And the other coil has wires going to inside cylinders?

Just double checkin... cause you may have a dead coil, bad plug wire, bad spark plug, bad wiring to coil, bad ignitghter (if applicable), bad pickups and/or condensors...
More to check!
