Oxidation on valves? was created by Kitten Tooth
Hey guys, Due to my crossover pipe rusting off, i figured i would just remove the whole exshaust system and fix things. After removal, i found white oxidation looking stuff on the exhaust valves coming from cylinders 2 and 4.. its on the valve stems themselves. Havent had a chance to check the valves on the intake side yet but i was wondering if this was a sign of burnt valves? Towards the end of last summer i just pulled the crossover pipe off by hand so i wouldnt lose it anywhere on the road. This made the bike sounds badass but there was a very obvious decrease in power. I could no longer downshift and launch past my dad like a rocket:D I also found recently that lower or no backpressure could burn up your valves on 4 stroke engines.... Do you guys thing the engines effed in the A? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys,
KT

have you tried running compression test?
tight valves/loose clearances can also make them run hot

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

I do need to do my valve clearances really bad too.. cylinder 4 has kind of a bad tick but i didnt let it go for too long. They do need re-shimming. I'll have to do a compression test on it today. I think last time i did it i got 130-140PSI on all cylinders which is kinda awesome:) and it didnt go up or anything when i squirted some oil in so it must be the valves. Do you guys think i damaged anything?

Well ill get a good looksy under the valve cover some time soon. Ill post pics of the valves and the exhaust just to show you guys the crossover pipe that broke off. Im not thinking its a big deal since my compressions so awesome but you never know. I plan on dropping some GPZ1100 cams in there pretty soon as well. i can thank Larry C for that bit of advise:)

Point the lobes directly away from the buckets and see what you have for lash. If you have any that are too tight to get a .0015" feeler into, see if the bucket will at least spin.

Just do your usual good job and you'll be fine kid :)
