I have a couple of Dyna S ignitions. Was wondering if there is a bench test to see if they are good or bad?

Don't have a complete runner to test it on at the moment.

Thanks

Do you have a battery, a small magnet, a coil and some wire?

That's all you'd need to bench test it.

Same principle as static test but only out of engine...
Instead of crank rotor magnet, use small magnet in hand to activate...

To go along with what Loud depicted.... B)

Not sure you truly need a coil to measure the 12Vdc to the coil. Possibly requires a load but maybe not...

+12Vdc and ground to the plate, place the magnet near one of the sensors and measure for +12Vdc (battery voltage) on the associated output conductor Black or green...

Thanks for all the info!
I can come up with all the stuff. I have a high end multi-tester from around 20 yrs ago. Batt. powered, digital read out, it beeps if you can be in sight of it.
Only thing, I am not shure on the diode reading and setting.

Thanks

Marty

The reason I'm saying you will want a coil is you want to make sure it sparks solidly up to 1/2". Don't try to jump more, though, because that can damage the dyna S.

The primary side of the coil, that the Dyna S is trying to ground and unground, will have a spike near 400 to 600 volts at the moment the Dyna S ungrounds it. Simply checking voltage levels will confirm the Dyna S is trying to turn the coil on and off, but without a coil and spark, you can't really confirm it will withstand the spike necessary to produce the spark. A common failure mode of ignition drivers is to still turn on and off, but not be able to withstand the spike. That's what you test for by getting an actual spark.
