Open element filter options, 2 or 4? was created by notaduc
I am curious if anyone has input or opinions on 4 single pods vs 2 double filters for 4 carbs?

NEITHER ! As always, my attitude is if you have a fairly stock street driven bike keep the stock airbox !!!! If you don't have any tuning experience and you swap to pods you are headed for a lifetime of tuning misery.

I think that could cause problems. I believe that the intake events for 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 overlap. Toward the end of the intake cycle on cylinder 1, the intake cycle for 2 begins. Assuming there is more resistance pulling through the filter media than from the neighboring cylinder, this could allow cylinder 1 to draw from #2, thus allowing only a partial charge to enter #2 after the intake valve on #1 closes. Having individual filters or short runners into a large intake box would prevent this.
I have seen a single "pod" filter for all 4 that perhaps has just enough plenum effect to prevent this. On the other hand, this may be why such mega-pods fell from favor.

Just my .02 theory..............

It is not stock at all as far as the bike is concerned, but the motor will be mostly stock.

It is for a complete custom, that will not be a daily.

As far as tuning, I will be playing with jetting plenty anyway with the carbs I am using, and have battled plenty of other jetting mysteries in the past, and am aware that pods are tougher than stock.

The overlap issue more or less answers my question.

I remember seeing a post on here somewhere with a guy with vm29's and some other craziness that was running paired filters that seemed to have his setup dialed...

Guess my expensive theory may be faulty, though I wonder what advantage two siamesed filters have over four singles.

Just more air, far as the manufacturers say. Its a larger surface area to draw from.
