I have run a set of VM29SS on my Z1000J for about 6 months now. Mains 125, Pilots 45 and you have to play around a fair bit with the float levels.

They are for sale now, as I have just recently acquired a set of RS34s, which should fit my engine even better.

And no, they are not 32mm, they are 29mm (if you meassure it at the venturi), but can be turned out to 33.5mm.

They fit just fine with the GPZ spigots and you should run individual K&Ns on them, with duals (like I did) it becomes a finger-breaking-challenge of setting the idle.

If you buy a second hand set, have a look at the slides and the overall condition, most of the ebay carbs are more or less dead and will require quite extensive (and expensive repair).

I paid 150 Euros for mine (off ebay), add another 80 for gaskets, float needles, throttle butterfly and some proper stainless allen-head screws and at that point I didn't even start jetting them.

But honestly: I quite like them...

Cheers,
Greg

A friend of mine has first refusal, but unless he wants them, they would be yours for 280 Euros plus shipping.

Cheers,
Greg

Hi notaduc

Those are marked as TM33´s if you need to find spares. I´ve had those for 4 years now and they feel really intresting. Rough but powerfull feeling. Don´t even dream of smooth idle, they were not designed for that. GSX750RR was a ready-to-race super bike. Actually in the original bike tacho started from 3krpm:P

One thing to do is to set the acc.pump. What I did is that I cut the rod pushing the pump to a length that it becomes active only after 1/3 -throttle. Otherwise you might flood the engine in ruhs-hour traffic. Do not disable them as they give a nice extra punch.

Also you MUST have two cables, pull and return, as the slides WILL stick when closing throttle in higher RPM´s. This is no joke:woohoo:

You´ll need to get exploded diagrams etc from here:

www.mikuni-topham.de/ENGLISHSITE/ENGLISH/Frame_English.html

Look for TM33-12

Top cap gasket is easy to DIY from Vytom-rubber, othervise you´ll get all the spares you need from Topham. I´d change floatbowl gasket and tiny little O-rings in in the idle-jet. They get really hard after some years.

Z1000R ´83...Slightly modified...
