1978 KZ750 Twin bogging down! Please Help! was created by BornOnThe4th
I just picked up a 78 Twin and I've got it running but the issue is that even after it warms up I have to keep the choke open. In addition to that when I hit the throttle it bogs down and occasionally backfires.

If anyone could help me with some troubleshooting ideas that would be great, thanks so much!

Welcome, BornOnThe4th.
Sounds like plugged primary jets in the carbs.
Use the Search Forum button at the top of the page for carb cleaning. Member MFolks(and others)have posted wel documented general procedures for cleaning carbs.

Good luck,
Jim

Carb related for sure, K&L rebuild kits are available at Z1 Enterprises, and other places.

You might want to check out www.armbell.com/forum/index.php?mforum=kz400 also. That's the Kawasaki Twins Owners Forum.

It's carbs. They needcleaning and tuning up. Also, clean the fuel tank and petcock and install inline filters.

Don't forget to check the diaphragms for holes or slits. Also, check your timing advancer to make sure it's working.

My '79 kz750 is doing exactly the same thing. I guess a carb cleaning will need to be done before spring.

Permanent and perpetual noob.

Hey Jim,
I stripped down the carbs, cleaned them up and sure enough the bike would throttle properly. But for some reason it wont idle it just shuts off. Is that because I need to adjust the throttle settings? Thanks for the help!

If not already done, would try using the thumb screw to set the idle at a higher rpm.

Good Fortune! :)
