not what you'd think :)

the split rods of my 750 have the usual "J" marks on the side.

i obviously kept the caps paired with the rods but what i forgot to write down is if the "j" mark has to face fwd, backward, or if it doesnt matter?

BTW, the rods are not exactly symmetrical. Near the foot of the rod there is little spike on just one side.

Unless i missed it, manual doesnt mention anything about rod orientation.

want to torque down the rods tonight... any ideas?

guess most people are used to roller cranks, but still,

if it wasnt for that little assymetrical bump, wouldnt be asking :)

so bump fwd or J fwd?

You should have two marks on the rods the letter mark is a "Weight " mark and a paint mark which indicates "ID" You than have to match the bearing size to the crank and the rod. The "nub" faces forward. That is a "Knocker" if the bearing starts to ware out it should hit the case lightly.

combed a few other workshop manuals from other brands and found that the: "bearing shell locating tabs forward / weight letter mark backwards" is indeed common to most inline fours.

just funny that the KZ650/750 manuals dont even mention rod orientation..
