dont worry bj,as we speak omr/old man racen is developing the the cure for bs34 carb performance issues!
hes developing an electric shifter operated off a vacuam/pressure switch from a goodman furnace.
when the switch senses a drop in vacuam it closes the normally open side of a relay(spare coil mod parts)which sends 12v to the electric shifter with the actuator reversed so it actually downshifts 2 gears to put you back in that sweet spot between 5250-5275 rpms!
no pictures of prototype yet,but hes busy back at the new skunk works facility. :woohoo:

Port and polishing the heads, new higher performance cams, cylinder boring and honing for a 1075cc piston kit, new wrist pins, piston rings, and the heads and the jugs get painted with high temperature paint.

I would buy new cams on ebay but I'm no sure what kind of cams to buy? I found a guy on ebay to do the head and the cylinder work for me and he said that he would sell me some higher performance cams that would be good for the set up that I am looking for. I'm just not that knowledgeable with that kind of stuff.

i personally can understand your concerns. i too am new to this type of work and was a bit overwhelmed when it came to decision time. the way i figured my bike is....is im ganna spend a grand getting it running, i might as well spend 2-2500 to redo it all.

i went with valve job, stock cams, getting new piston kit with 1075 bore. welded crank, and thats about it for all the $$$ stuff. good luck, and keep us posted.

What condition is the engine in?
Oil leaks?
Smoke?
Have you done a compression test?
If compression isn't up to spec is the valve lash to tight?
If it is in good running order you might be happy with some drop in cams, exhaust and intake mods.
That would require money and skills.

No compression test was done there was a leak where the tach cable went into. I am starting to think that I should keep it stock but really want a bike that performs well. Maybe I should just get new cams and I can get the cylinder boring and honing done here that way I can save some cash on the shipping. Is there anything that I have to take into account when I get new cams? Like when you say that they are "drop in" cams do I just put the in and call it a day?

I just got my 6" over swingarm in the mail yesterday. I got a good deal I think. I've been looking around for a newer swingarm and the cheapest that I found was about $600 plus shipping. I got my swingarm for $200 bucks including shipping. It was off of a dragbike and it appears straight and level. I wish I could upload pics onto this thread but when I add the pic it says that the pic is too large to post?!?!? I'll give it a try again right now....
This is my "garage"

do you have a cdl yet? might want to get one with a 6" over arm, itll be like driving a bus trying to drive around obstacles. .
a good gsxr 750-1000 swingarm will fit stock pivot area and just needs shock mounts welded on and shims made for it,if you can find 82-83 gs1100 arm its even easier.
the suzuki arms average 1 1/2-2" over depending on which one you get.
just remember drag bikes are made to go in a straight line really fast, and tend to take corners at around 10-15mph

I realized that after. I was looking for a +2 over but I found that it was too expensive. I thought that this was a good deal. I have seen some of the work that you guys have done on your bikes and I am no where near at that level. I did the measurements on the swingarm today and it wasn't 6" it was more like 4-5". I was looking for a 2" over but no luck as of yet maybe I'll sell this once I find one.

I bought a dyna s ignition from a guy in the city here for $100 brand new still in the box. I bought new coils and wires from z1 too. Is that what you are talking about?
